For the Spring Summer 18 season I was rather busy with midyear award season and theatre season full in swing I had a lot of clientèle booked so I was in and out of shows and stores through out fashion week. I was running through the streets and cobbles a lot more then usual going from clients to shows. I certainly had to carry my gentleman's handkerchief to make sure my face was not sweaty. I had to be matt of course. But the collections were worth the extra work out of running around. Here is a few of my highlights BORA ASKU The collection showed strong inspiration based on a modern day doll house. Showcasing short play dresses for the everyday women. Blending a strong contrast of darker colours Matching elongated dresses with ribbon bows show a collection which is wearable and stylishly "cute" for the modern day dolls. SABINNA The collection had fun overlay textured fabrics that Sabinna has now made a signature feature in their collections. Strong tailored pieces, large floral and striking crop cut trousers all featured in the collection. I found the pieces very smart and playing with the idea of relaxed workwear with a edge. The collection was very playful and strong tailoring was a stand out feature in the collection. HOUSE OF MEA The house of eastern couture style knocked it out the park and broke the mould in the SS collection. Featuring translucent bodice pieces. using ruffles, features mixed with oversized shoulder padded gowns. The collection was had a sense of eastern couture S&M feel as it blended leather with wire underskirts and hexagon silhouettes dominated the runway. ZEYNAP KARTAL One of my favourite designers of the last few seasons. This Turkish designer has proven she is the queen of evening-wear. Showing a range of gowns that oozed classic glamour and sophistication. Lightweight fabrics in solid pastel shades created the ultimate summer must haves in the evening circuit. I'm sure we will see these pieces on the red carpets very soon. The Glitter finale dress was certainly one to be kept till last as your breath was held from its beauty and craftsmanship. TEATUM JONES For their latest collection they explored fashion and disability, dedicating their collection to Natasha Baker, the British Paralympic dressage rider and 11-time gold medalist. There were long, flowing silhouettes, loose tailoring and figure-hugging knits done in a feminine palette of mints, pastel pinks and baby blues. The design house cast models of different sizes and ethnicity in the show, as well as a number of models with disabilities This bringing the conversation of diversity in the fashion industry to the forefront. XIAO LI The collection showed a bold colour palette of pink, blue, red and white, strong silhouettes were meet with mesh and organza revealing the female form. Over exaggerated bows and ribbons on both clothing and footwear alter the gaze, distorting the fluidity of the female body’s natural form. The transparent materials echo the message of invisibility and uniformity of a robot, rejecting individuality and reducing to a body instead of a personality. Waistlines are accentuated with precise tailoring, and further magnified with puff sleeves and A-line skirts. OTHER HIGHLIGHTS SWEDISH HOUSE OF TEXTILES SS18 VIN + OMI RUE St- Shoes Spring Summer 18
